DANIEL RAY TO JOHN REED 1849

This Indenture made and entered into this 3rd day of January A. D. one thousand 
eight hundred and forty nine between Daniel Ray and Mary Ray of the State of 
Alabama and County of Tallapoosa of the one part John Reed of the County and 
State aforesaid of the other part that Daniel Ray & Mary Ray hath this day for 
and in consideration of the sum of  One hundred and Twenty Dollars to us cash 
in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged before the signing 
sealing and delivery of these presents do bargain sell and convey and do farly 
[sic] bargain sell and convey unto the aforesaid John Reed all the Tract or 
Parcel of Land known & distinguished as the North West Quarter of the South 
West Quarter of Section No. Seventeen (17) in Township No. Twenty two (22) of 
Range No. Twenty two (22) containing forty acres & [can’t read] 100/10 [sic] in 
this District of Lands subject to sale at Montgomery Ala. To have and to hold 
the said with all the appurtenances hereunto belonging.  And we the party of 
the first part do hereby agree to forever warrant and defend the title to the 
aforesaid and hereby granted, premises from ourselves our heirs assigns 
executors & administrators and all other persons whatsoever unto the said John 
Reed of the second part to his heirs assigns executors & administrators 
forever.  In testimony whereof we hereunto sign our names and affix our seals 
the day and date above written.

Before me Samuel [can’t read] an acting Justice of the Peace in and for the 
said County personally came Daniel Ray & Mary Ray whose signatures appear to 
the foregoing Deed & acknowledged that they signed sealed and delivered the 
same on the day of the date thereof to the within named John Reed for the 
purposes therein mentioned.  Given under my hand & seal this 5th day of March 
A. D. one thousand eight hundred & forty nine.
