HUGH LOCKETE, SHERIFF TO DANIEL RAY 1851

The State of Alabama
Tallapoosa County
Whereas an execution issued from the Circuit Court of Russell County in favor 
of Matt R. Evans use of Edward Curry, bearing date 15th Oct 1850 against James 
S. Calhoun, was levied by me, as Sheriff of said County of Tallapoosa an [sic] 
the following as the property of said James S. Calhoun viz The West half of 
Section Twenty eight in Township twenty (20) and Range twenty one (21) lying 
and being in the County of Tallapoosa, and State of Alabama, subject to sale at 
Montgomery.  And whereas said property, having been first duly advertised for 
sale, was sold by me, as Sheriff aforesaid on the first Monday of February 
1851, before the Court House door in said County to Daniel Ray, who became the 
highest and best bidder for the sum of six dollars. Now, therefore, be it 
known, that in consideration of the premises, and of the payment of the sum of 
money above mentioned, I do hereby sell and convey unto the said Daniel Ray, 
all the legal right, title, interest and claim, which the said John C. Calhoun 
had and held in and to the property above described.  In testimony whereof, I 
here unto set my hand and affix my seal, this 3rd day of February 1851.

I Luke Davenport an acting Justice of the Peace in and for said County do 
hereby certify that the written named Hugh Lockett, Sheriff, personally 
appeared before me and acknowledged that he signed, sealed, and delivered the 
within deed on the day of the date thereof, to the written named Daniel Ray for 
the purposes therein contained.  Given under my hand and seal this February the 
3rd 1851.

duly recorded the same day.
