RIDGEWAY TO RAY 1861

State of Alabama
Tallapoosa County
Know all men by these presents that I James B. Ridgeway of the county of 
Tallapoosa & State of Alabama have this day bargained and sold and conveyed 
unto Ransom G. Ray of the same county and state aforesaid my crop of corn to be 
raided by me this year.  Given under my hand and seal this 18th day of May A. 
D. 1861.  The consideration of the above is as follows, that whereas I am 
indebted to Ransom G. Ray by note in the sum of seventy five dollars bearing 
even date with these presents and due, and being desirous of securing the said 
Ray in the payment of the said note have made the above sale for that purpose, 
now in order to effect the same I do hereby oblige myself to deliver in the 
event I fail to pay off said note by the first day of November 1861, my crop of 
corn to be raised this year, and I do further authorize the said Ray to take 
the possession of the same to wit; on the 1st day of November A. D. 1861 and 
proceed to sell the same to the highest bidder at private sale to any person he 
may see fit and out of the proceeds thereof to pay off and discharge said note 
according to the tenor & effect thereof, with all costs in executing and 
probating the same and recording this instrument and the remainder if any to 
pay to me.  In testimony I have hereto set my hand and seal on this 18th day of 
May A. D. 1861.

I Allen D. Sturdivant Judge of Probate for Tallapoosa County hereby certify 
that J. B. Ridgeway whose name is signed to the foregoing conveyance and who is 
known to me acknowledges before me this day that being informed of the contents 
of this conveyance he executed the same voluntarily on the day the same bears 
date.
