Sowell the receipt whereof we do acknowledge do hereby give, grant, bargain, sell, enfeoff and confirm unto the said James M. Sowell his heirs and assigns to the following land to wit; the north east fourth of the west half of the north east quarter of section Seventeen reserving our half of an acre of land where the grave yard is, containing thirty nine 30/100 of an acre, and also the north east quarter of the north east quarter of section seventeen, in Township twenty two and range twenty two containing forty acres more of less to have and to hold the afore granted premises to the said James M. Sowell his heirs and assigns to their use and behoof forever and we do covenant with the said James M. Sowell his heirs and assigns that we are lawfully seized in fee of the afore granted premises; that they are free of all incumbrances [sic], that we will warrant and defend the said premises to the said James M. Sowell his heirs and assigns forever against the lawful claims and demands of all persons. In witness whereof we the said Silas Ray and Sarah Ray his wife have hereunto set our hands and seals this 29th day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty nine. The State of Alabama Tallapoosa County I Luke Davenport an acting Justice of the Peace for said County hereby certify that Silas Ray and Sarah Ray whose names are signed to the foregoing conveyance is [sic] known to me, acknowledged before me and this day that being informed of the contents they executed the same voluntarily on the day the same bears date.
