VAUGHAN & WIFE TO RAY 1861

The State of Alabama
Tallapoosa County
Know all men by these presents that we James Vaughan and his wife Salie Vaughan 
of said County and State for and in consideration of the sum of seven hundred 
dollars secured by promissory note to James Vaughan by Ransom G. Ray do hereby 
give, grant, bargain, sell, enfeoff and confirm unto said Ransom G. Ray the 
following tract or parcel of land lying and situate in Tallapoosa County 
Alabama to wit; the east half of section thirty one 31 Township twenty two 22 
Range twenty two 22, To have and to hold the aforementioned premises to the 
said Ransom G. Ray his heirs and assigns, to their use and behoof forever.  And 
we do hereby covenant with the said Ray his heirs and assigns, that we are 
lawfully seized in fee of the afore granted premises; that they are free of all 
incrumbrances [sic], that we have a good right to sell and convey the same to 
the said Ransom G. Ray his heirs and assigns and that we will warrant and 
defend the said premises to the said Ransom G. Ray his heirs and assigns 
forever against the lawful claims and demands of all persons.  
In witness whereof we the said James Vaughan and Salie Vaughan have hereunto 
our hands and seal this 30th day of December in the year of our Lord one 
thousand eight hundred and sixty one.

The State of Alabama

I Luke Davenport an acting Justice of the Peace for said County hereby certify 
that James Vaughan and Salie Vaughan whose names are signed to the foregoing 
conveyance, and who are known to me, acknowledged before me, on this day that 
being informed of the contents of the conveyance they executed the same 
voluntarily, on the day the same bears date.
Given under my hand, this 30th day of December A. D. 1861
