Ray and Mary Ann Ray his wife for and in consideration of the sum of two hundred dollars to us in hand paid by James B. Davis the receipt whereof we do hereby acknowledge do hereby grant bargain, sell and convey unto the said James B. Davis his heirs and assigns the following described tract or parcel of land to wit; the south west ¼ of the south west ¼ of section twenty three (23) also the north west ¼ of the north west ¼ of section twenty six (26) all in Township twenty two of Range twenty two to have and to hold the aforementioned premises to his use and behoof for ever and we do covenant with the said James B. Davis his heirs & assigns that we have a good right to sell the north west ¼ of the north west of section twenty six (26) and that it is free of all encumbrances and that we will warrant & defend the said premises against the lawful claims & demands of all persons. In testimony whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this the 24th day of April 1863. James M. Ray-his seal Maran [sic] Ray-her mark Signed and delivered in the presence of B. M. Meek The State of Alabama Tallapoosa County Joseph T. Taylor a Justice of the [blank] in and for said County hereby certify- J. M. Ray & Mary Ann Ray whose names-signed to the foregoing conveyance and who is known to me, acknowledged before me on this day that being informed of the contents of the conveyance they executed the same voluntarily on the day the same bears date.
