RAY TO RAY 1862

The State of Alabama
Tallapoosa County
Know all men by these presents that I James Ray of the state of Alabama 
Tallapoosa County for and in consideration of the sum of four hundred dollars 
to me in hand paid the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged do hereby grant, 
bargain, sell and convey unto Samuel T. Ray his heirs and assigns a certain 
piece or parcel of land known as a part of the north half of the north west 
quarter section twenty nine of Township 24, Range 22 commencing at the convey 
dividing said quarter section and [can’t read] east to the branch and then down 
said branch to a chestnut corner on said branch then north to the line 
containing eighty acres more or less, to have and to hold the before mentioned 
premises to the said Samuel T. Ray his heirs and assigns to their own proper 
use benefit and behoof forever in fee simple and I covenant and agree with the 
said S. T. Ray his heirs and assigns that I am lawfully seized in fee of the 
afore granted premises; that they are free from all incumbrances [sic]; that I 
have a good title and right to sell and convey the same to the said S. T. Ray 
his heirs and assigns and that I will warrant and defend the said premises to 
the said S. T. Ray his heirs and assigns against the claims of all other 
persons whatsoever.  In testimony of which I hereunto set my hand and affix my 
seal this 22nd June 1862.

I Phillip Wolf a Justice of the Peace in said County hereby certify that James 
Ray whose name is signed to the within conveyance and who is known to me, 
acknowledged before me this day that being informed of the contents of the 
conveyance he signed the same voluntarily on the day the same bears date.  
Given under my hand this 22nd day of June 1863

The foregoing conveyance filed in office for record the 16th day of November 
1863 and duly recorded the same day.
