MARTHA RAY TO LARKIN COUNTS 1869

State of Alabama
Tallapoosa County
Know all men by these presents that I Martha Ray of the county and State afore 
said for and in consideration of the sum of seventy dollars to me in hand paid 
by Larkin Counts of the same county & state the receipt whereof I do hereby 
acknowledge do hereby give grant bargain & sell and convey unto the said Larkin 
Counts his heirs and assigns the following described Land to wit;  the N. W. ¼ 
of the N. E. ¼ of Section twenty two (22) except the use of the timber to Mrs. 
S. Besinger.  To have and to hold the aforesaid granted premises to the said L. 
C. Counts his heirs & assigns forever and I do covenant with the said Counts 
that I am lawfully seized in fee of the afore granted premises, that they are 
free of all encumbrances and that I have a good [missing word, right] to sell & 
convey the same to the said Counts his heirs & assigns, that I will warrant and 
defend the same to the said Counts his heirs and assigns against the lawful 
claims and demands of all persons.  In witness whereof I have hereunto set my 
hand & affixed my seal this 19th day of January 1869.

I, B. F. Hammock an acting Justice of the Peace in or for said county, hereby 
certify that Martha Ray the grantor in the foregoing conveyance who is known to 
me appeared before me on this day and acknowledged that being informed of the 
contents of the conveyance she executed the same voluntarily on the day the 
same bears date.  Given under my hand this 19th day of January 1869.
