Holley in the sum of One hundred and Eighty two 50/100 dollars evidence by my promissory note dated today and due the 1st day of December next, and being desirous of securing the payment thereof, have and hereby do bargain sell and mortgage the following described property to wit; Two large Bay horse mules and one two horse wagon, to him the said Holley his heirs and assigns forever, but on condition that, if I pay the said above note by the time it falls due, then this mortgage to be void, otherwise the said Holley, is hereby authorized to sell the said mules and wagon to the highest bidder for cash, first advertising the time and place of sale for fifteen days in writing at Dadeville and two other public places in said County and apply the proceeds of such sale to the satisfaction of said note and the expenses of this instrument. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal on this the 27th day of March 1871. Daniel Ray-his mark Attest; John P. Burns State of Alabama Tallapoosa County I, J. P. Burns, Register in Chancery for the 4th District, Eastern Chancery Division of said State of Alabama, hereby certify that Daniel Ray whose name is signed to the foregoing conveyance, and who is known to me acknowledged before me on this day that being informed of the contents of the conveyance, he executed the same voluntarily on the day the same bears date.
