M. Ray of the County and State above written is justly indebted to G. T. Craddock in the full and just sum of nine hundred and five 75/100 dollars, by promissory note made this the 1st day of March 1870, and due the 1st day of November next and I the said Jas. M. Ray being desirous of securing the said G. T. Craddock in payment of the above note at the time it becomes due, I this day bargain, sell and convey unto the said G. T. Craddock his heirs or assigns the following described property, to wit; The West ½ of the South west ¼ and the W. E. ¼, all in Section 23, also N W ¼ of the N W ¼ in Section 26, all in Township 22, of Range 11, containing One hundred and Sixty two acres, also all of my entire crop of corn and cotton that I may make during the present year 1870, also two black mules, one two- horse wagon, also all of my Stock of cattle and hogs consisting of two cows and calves, one yearling, and 18 head of hogs. To have and to hold the afore granted property to his use and behoof forever, in the following conditions, first, that if I the said Jas. M. Ray do pay the above note at the time it becomes due, then these obligations to be null and void, but if I the said Jas. M. Ray should fail to pay off and discharge the above note and expenses of this instrument at the time it becomes due then the said G. T. Craddock, his heirs or assigns shall have full power to seize upon the afore granted property and after giving Twenty days public notice in said County he may proceed to sell at Dadeville in said County, for cash, so much or all of Said property as will be sufficient to satisfy the above demands, if any surplus left, pay it back to the said Jas. Ray and Mary Ann Ray, whose names are signed to the foregoing conveyance, who is known to me acknowledged before me on this day being informed of the contents of the conveyance they executed the same voluntarily on the day the same bears date.
