Ray of County & State aforesaid is justly indebted to G. T. Craddock in the sum of Sixty Six 68/100 dollars by promissory note made this the 10 day of April 1869, and due the 1st day of November next, and I the said J. D. Ray being desirous of securing the said G. T. Craddock in payment of the above note at the time it becomes due, I this day bargain sell and convey unto the said G. T. Craddock his heirs or assigns the following property, to wit; All of my entire crop of corn and cotton except five hundred pounds of cotton lint, also one two horse wagon and twelve head of hogs. To have and to hold the afore granted property to his use and behoof forever. The Condition of the above obligation is such that if I the said J. D. Ray do pay the above note at the time it becomes due, then this obligation to be null & void, but if I the said J. D. Ray should fail to pay the above note at the time it becomes due then the said G. T. Craddock his heirs or assigns shall have full power to seize upon said property and after giving twenty days public notice in said County, he may proceed to sell at Dadeville in said County so much or all of said property as will be sufficient to satisfy the above notice and expenses of sale, and after pay off and discharging the above demands if any money left pay it back to J. D. Ray his heirs or assigns. In witness whereof I the said John D. Ray have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 10th day of April 1869. J. D. Ray-his seal The State of Alabama Tallapoosa County I, James M. Ray and [sic] acting Justice of the Peace for said County hereby certify that John D. Ray whose name is signed to the foregoing conveyance who is known to me acknowledged before me on this day being informed of the contents of the conveyance he executed the same voluntarily on the day the same bears date.
