L. Ray is justly indebted to Silas Farrow in the sum of Sixty dollars by promissory note made this the 24th day of March 1868 and due the 24th day of October next and I the said A. L. Ray being desirous of securing the said Silas Farrow in payment of the above note at the time it becomes due I this day bargain sell and convey unto the said Silas Farrow his heirs and assigns the following described property wit; all of my crop of corn and cotton that I may make during the present year, also one spotted cow and calf and four spotted hogs. To have and to hold the afore granted property to his use and behoof forever, the condition of the above obligations is such that if I the said A. L. Ray do pay or cause to be paid to the said Silas Farrow his heirs or assigns the above note at the time it becomes due, then these obligations to be null and void, but if I the said Ray should fail to pay off and discharge the above note at the time it becomes due then the said Silas Farrow his heirs or attorney shall have full Power to Seize and take the above described property and after giving 20 days public notice in said County so much or all of said property as will be of value sufficient to satisfy the above note and expenses of sale and after paying off and discharging the above note and expenses if any surplus left pay it to A. L. Ray his heirs or assigns. In witness whereof I the said A. L. Ray have hereunto set my hand and Seal this the 24th day of March 1868. A. L. Ray-his seal State of Alabama Tallapoosa County I Jas. M. Berry and acting Justice of the Peace for said County do hereby certify that A. L. Ray who [sic] name is signed to the foregoing conveyance who is known to me acknowledged before me on this day, being informed of the contents of the conveyance he executed the same voluntarily on this day the same bears date, Witness my hand this the 24 day of March 1868.
