L. Ray are justly indebted to G. T. Craddock in the full and just sum of thirty dollars in gold by note made this the 15th day of June and due the 1st day of November next, and I the said A. L. Ray being desirous of securing the said G. T. Craddock in payment of the above described note at the time it becomes due, I have this day bargained and sold unto the said G. T. Craddock the following described property to wit; one black mule five years old and one cow and calf, cow spotted and calf red, also all of my crop of corn and cotton that I may make during the present year 1867. To have and to hold the afore granted property to his use behoof forever, the conditions of is such that if I A. L. Ray do pay or cause to be paid to G. T. Craddock his heirs or assigns the above described note and expenses of this mortgage at the time it becomes due, then these obligations to be null and void, but if I the said A. L. Ray should fail to pay off and discharge the above debt and expenses at the time it becomes due then the said G. T. Craddock his heirs or attorney shall have full power to seize and take in possession the above described property and after giving twenty days public notice in said county, he may proceed to sell at my residents [sic] so much or all as will be of value sufficient to satisfy the above debt and expenses of this instrument, and after selling off and discharging the above note and expenses of the sale if any surplus left the said Craddock shall pay it back to the said A. L. Ray his heirs or assigns; the above debt for the purpose of buying provisions with. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 15th day of June 1867. A. L. Ray-his seal State of Alabama Tallapoosa County I Jas. M. Ray an acting Justice of the peace in and for said County do hereby certify the A. L. Ray whose name is signed to the within and foregoing conveyance who is known to me acknowledges before me after being informed of the contents of the conveyance he executed the same voluntarily on the day the same bears date.
