PICKARD The State of Alabama Tallapoosa County Know all men by these presents that whereas we William BURNETT and Sinthy BURNETT his wife and Cornelas JORDAN are justly indebted to H.J. PICKARD in the sum of two hundred and sixteen dollars evidenced by one promissory note bearing in date the 7th July 1857 and due the twenty fifth day of December next. Now therefore in order to secure the said PICKARD in punctual payment of the same we hereby sell and convey unto the said PICKARD the following property to wit: Harriet a Negro girl about thirteen years old and to have and to hold to the said PICKARD his heirs and assigns forever but should we pay off all of said indebtedness at its maturity then this sale to be null and void but should we fail or refuse to pay off said indebtedness then the said H.J. PICKARD is hereby authorized to take possession of the said property and to sell the same at public sale after advertising the same ten days the time and place of sale the same at public outcry in the town of Dadeville for cash and apply the proceeds of [same] sale to the payment of the above note and interest and xxxx any over to pay to the said William BURNETT and Sinthy BURNETT and Cornelus JORDAN in witness whereof we hereunto set our hands and seal this the 7th July 1857 William BURNETT her Sinthy x BURNETT mark Test William TILLEY The foregoing conveyance was filled in office for record July 11, 1857 and duly recorded July 16 1857.
