Vol., and, that he did not desert the service of this State, or Confederate States: That while in the discharge of his duties as such, on the 2 day of July 1863 at Gettysburg, at the State of Penn. he was wounded in the hip and in consequence of such loss of limb, wound or wounds; sickness or old age, he is physically unable to earn a livelihood by labor: That he was, on the 13th day of February, 1891, and is now a resident of Alabama, and that his post office address is Jackson’s Gap That he is engaged in the business of Farming That his taxable property consists of 40 acres of land, 1 horse & some Cattle, and is not worth in the aggregate more than five hundred dollars: That his salary or gross income does not amount to five hundred dollars; And he hereby makes application for relief under said act. Cumbee, Judge of Probate, Tallapoosa County (Third Document) Application for the Relief of Confederate Soldiers and Sailors The State of Alabama County of Tallapoosa To the Honorable Board of Examiners for said county: Your petitioner, A. C. Duffey, respectfully represents to your Honorable Board that he is a resident citizen of Tallapoosa County, in the State of Alabama, and that he resided in said State on the first day of January in the year 1899; That he enlisted in the service of the State, or Confederate States, as a Private in Company G in the 5th Ala Regiment, on the (left blank) day of Aug 1863 at Camp Watts, in the State of Alabama; that he was honorably discharged from such service on the (left blank) day of August in Prison in 1865; that he did not desert the service of the Confederate States, or of the State of Alabama; That he was wounded at the battle of Gettysburg in the State of Pa; That he is now unable to make a living by manual labor on account of old age & wounds; That he is at the time of filing this application 68 years of age, and that his post office address is Jackson’s Gap, Alabama; That he does not now own property either in his own name, nor that of his wife, to the value of four hundred ($400) dollars; that his annual income does not exceed four hundred ($400) dollars; and that he has no children upon whom he can depend for support. Your petitioner files herewith a complete schedule of all property owned by himself and wife. In consideration of the forgoing facts, your petitioner asks that his name be placed upon the Pension Rolls, in the class that your Honorable Board may adjudge him to belong, that he may participate in the division of the fund provided for the relief of Confederate and Alabama soldiers and their widows, by act of the General Assembly approved February 10, 1899. Duffey, who died on June 30, 1920 and who was, at the time of his death, on the pension roll of Tallapoosa County as Number 8185, under section 4 of Act approved September 23rd, 1919, respectfully petition that my name be placed on the pension roll of Tallapoosa County as such widow, and I further affirm that I have not remarried since the death of my husband. I further certify that I married him prior to June 1st 1900; at time of his death, I was not divorced from him, and was not voluntarily living apart from him, during the period of one year, prior to his death, and I do not own interest in real estate, or personal property in the amount of $5,000, and that my income does not exceed $1,200.00 per annum. L. Shepard NP & EX & JP End of Documents Notes: Adam Clark Duffey, was born 4 March 1836 in Henry County, Georgia. He married Nancy Angeline Hall, daughter of Brinkley and Naomi Hall, on 26 September 1861, in Chambers County, Alabama. Their children were: Mary Ann “Jo” (married John William Coker), William LaFayette (married Susie Jones and Ruth Caroline Banks), George “Anna” Missouri (she did not marry, died 5 June 1892 and is buried in Eagle Creek Baptist Cemetery, Tallapoosa County with her parents), Walter Captoria (married Emma Lavonia Jones), Jesse Clark (married Alice Pearl McKemie), James Henry (married Nora Newsom and Lenora Mexico Newman) and Joseph Ely (no record of marriage). Nancy Angeline (Hall) Duffey died 3 September 1888 and was buried in Eagle Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Tallapoosa County Alabama. Adam Clark Duffey married a second time to Sarah Ann Margarett Prickett on 14 March 1899 in Tallapoosa County Alabama. He and Sarah only had one child, to my knowledge, a son Odie Lee Duffey, who married Ruby Blackwelder. Adam Clark Duffey died 30 June 1920 and is buried with his wives in Eagle Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Tallapoosa County, Alabama. Sarah “Margarite” Duffey died 4 March 1922 and is buried with Adam Clark Duffey at Eagle Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
