Goss, who being duly sworn, deposes and says: That, while in the military or naval service of this State, or Confederate States, he was a private in company F of 47 Regiment of Ala and that he did not desert the service of this State, or Confederate States: That while in the discharge of his duties, as such, on the 3 day of May 1863 at Suffolk, in the State of Virginia he was wounded in breast by shell & has (???) paralysis and in consequence of such loss of limb, wound or wounds; sickness or and old age, he is physically unable to earn a livelihood by labor: That he is now a bona fide resident of Alabama, and that he has been such for at least one year prior to this date: That his post office address is Reedbrake: That he is engaged in the business of Farming. That his taxable property consists of 2 mules 1 wagon and is not worth in the aggregate more than five hundred dollars: That his salary or gross income does not amount to five hundred dollars per year: and that his wife does not own a separate estate of more than five hundred dollars: And he hereby makes application for relief under said Act. J. Goss respectfully represents to your honorable Board that he is a resident citizen of Marshall county, in the State of Alabama and that he resided in said State on the first day of January in 1899; that he enlisted in the service of the State, or Confederate States, as a Private in Company F in the 47th Ala Regiment on the (left blank) day of May 1862 at Loachapoka, in the State of Alabama, and that he was honorably discharged from such service on the (lined out) day of April 1865, that he did not desert the service of the Confederate States, or of the State of Alabama; that he was wounded at the battle of Suffolk, in the State of Virginia; that he is now unable to make a living by manual labor on account of such wounds & besides has (???) paralysis that he is at the time of filing this application 65 years of age, and that his post office address is Reedbrake, Alabama; that he does not own property, either in his own name, nor that of his wife, to the value of Four Hundred Dollars ($400); that his annual income does not exceed Four Hundred Dollars ($400); and that he has no children upon whom he can depend for support. Your petitioner files herewith a complete schedule of all the property owned by himself and wife. In consideration of the forgoing facts, your petitioner asks that his name be placed upon the pension rolls, in the class that your Honorable Board may adjudge him to belong, that he may participate in the division of the fund provided for the relief of Confederate and Alabama soldiers and their widows, by Act of General Assembly approved February 10, 1899. Volunteers, that her husband died on the 23 day of Oct. 1907, that at the time of the death of her said husband, his name was on the State Pension Roll of now existing and numbered 17557, that she has not remarried since the death of her said husband.
