Application For the relief of needy confederate soldiers and sailors, residents of Alabama, who from wounds or other cause, are now unable to earn a livelihood by labor, under act approved February 13, 1891 (H.B. 969) and as amended February 18, 1895 (S.B. 825) The State of Alabama, County of Tallapoosa Before me, R. A. J. Cumbee, Judge of Probate in and for said County, in said State, personally appeared H. F. Goss, who being duly sworn, deposes and says: That, while in the military or naval service of this State, or Confederate States, he was a soldier in Company E of 44 Regiment of Ala. Vol’s and, that he did not desert the service of this State, or Confederate States; That while in the discharge of his duties as such, on the (left blank) day of (left blank) 186(left blank) at (left blank) in the State of (left blank) he was became afflicted wile in the army and is still afflicted and in consequence of such loss of limb, wound or wounds; sickness or old age, he is physically unable to earn a livelihood by labor: That he was on the 13th day of February, 1891, and is now, a resident of Alabama, and that his post office address is Cowpens: That he is engaged in the business of Farming: That his taxable property consists of Nothing, and is not worth in the aggregate more than five hundred dollars: That his salary or gross income does not amount to five hundred dollars per year; and that his wife does not own a separate estate of more than five hundred dollars; And he hereby makes application for relieve under said act. Goss, respectfully represents to your Honorable Board, that he is a resident citizen of Tallapoosa County, in the State of Alabama, and that he resided in said State on the 1st day of January in the year 1899, that he enlisted in the service of the State or Confederate States as a Private in Company E in the 44th Regiment on the (left blank) day of Sept. 1864, at Camp Watts, in the State of Alabama, that he was honorable discharged from such service on the 9th day of April 1865, that he did not desert the service of the Confederate States, or of the State of Alabama, that he was wounded at the battle of (left blank) in the State of (left blank) that he is now unable to make a living by manual labor on account of Rheumatism and old age , that he is at the time of filing this application 73 years of age, and that his post office address is Alexander City, R#5; that he does not own property, either in his own name or that of his wife, to the value of four hundred ($400) dollars, that his annual income does not exceed four hundred ($400) dollars, and that he has no children upon whom he can depend for support. Your petitioner files herewith a complete schedule of all property owned by himself and wife. In consideration of the foregoing facts, your petitioner asks that his name be placed upon the pension rolls, in the class that Your Honorable Board may adjudge him to belong that he may participate in the division of the funds provided for the relief of Confederate and Alabama soldiers and their widows, by an Act of the General Assembly of Alabama, approved February 10, 1899, and amended March 5th, 1901. Mahan, a Justice of the Peace in and for said State and county, personally appeared L. J. Goss, who being by me first duly sworn, deposes and says that she is a resident of Tallapoosa County, Alabama, her post office being Alexander City, Alabama; that she is the widow of H. F. Goss, who served in the Confederate Army as Privit (sic) being in the 44 Regiment of Ala; that she was born at or near (left blank) in the County of (left blank) State of Georgia on the 17 day of Sept. 1840, being 75 years of age at the time of make this affidavit; that she is now on the pension roll of Tallapoosa County under number 22639. Affiant further states that she hereby makes application under an act approved March 8, 1915, to be placed on the reclassified pension roll. Sworn to and subscribed before me this 23 day Mrs. L. J.
