Newman, who being by me duly sworn, deposes and says under oath; That she is the widow of Watton (sic) D. Newman; that her said husband was a soldier in company F of 47 Regiment Ala and, that he did not desert the service of this State or Confederate States: That he was killed or died of disease or from wounds during the war, and while in the military or naval service of this State, or of the Confederate States, or, that he died within five years after the close of the war, and from wounds received therein; that she has not remarried; That she was, on the 13th day of February 1891, and is now, a resident of Alabama, and her post office address is Forsheeton; that her taxable property consists of 40 acres of Good land, and is not worth in the aggregate more than five hundred dollars; and that her salary or gross income does not amount to five hundred dollars per year. (2 June 1900) Application of Widows of Deceased Soldiers or Sailors of the Armies of the Confederate States or the State of Alabama State of Alabama, Tallapoosa County. To the Honorable Board of Examiners of said County. Your petitioner, N. A. Newman, respectfully represents to your Honorable Board, that she is a citizen of Tallapoosa County, in the State of Alabama, and was such on the 1st day of January 1899; That she is a widow of W. D. Newman, was served as a Privit (sic) in company F of the 47 Regiment Ala Volunteers; That her husband was killed or died on the 2 day of Jany, 1863; That he did not desert the service of the State of Alabama, nor the Confederate States; That she has not since remarried; and that she has no children upon whom she can depend for support; that all of her property does not exceed four hundred dollars in value, and that her annual income from all sources does not exceed four hundred dollars. She therefore respectfully asks your honorable board to place her name upon the pension rolls of the State as a member of the fourth class, that she may participate in the division of the fund provided for the relief of needy Confederate soldiers and sailors, and their widows, by an act of the General Assembly of Alabama, approved February 10, 1899.
