To the Honorable Board of Examiners of said County: Your petitioner, G. M. Tapley, respectfully represents to your Honorable Board, that he is a resident citizen of Tallapoosa County, in the State of Alabama, and that he resided in said State on the 1st day of January, in the year 1899, that he enlisted in the service of the State or Confederate States as a Private in Company F in the 47 Regiment on the 9th day of April 1862, at Lochapoka in the State of Alabama, that he was honorably discharged from such service on the 9th day of April 1865, that he did not desert the service of the Confederate States, or of the State of Alabama, that he was wounded at the battle of (left blank) in the State of (left blank) that he is now unable to make a living by manual labor on account of age and affliction that he is at the time of filing this application 75 years of age, and that his post office address is Alexander City, Rt 5 Alabama; that he does not own property, either in his own anme or that of his wife, to the value of four hundred ($400) dollars, that his annual income does not exceed four hundred ($400) dollars, and that he has no children upon whom he can depend for support. Your petitioner files herewith a complete schedule of all property owned by himself and wife. In consideration of the foregoing facts, your petitioner asks that his name be placed upon the pension rolls, in the class that Your Honorable Board may adjudge him to belong that he may participate in the division of the funds provided for the relief of Confederate and Alabama soldiers and their widows, by and Act of the General Assembly of Alabama, approved February 10, 1899, and amended March 5th, 1901. Tapley, a Confederate Veteran herby apply for admission into the Confederate Soldier’s home of Alabama, and base my application upon the following statement of facts. 1. My name is (Give full name) G. M. Tapley 2. My wife’s name is Deceased 3. My age is 83 May 7, 1917 4. My wife’s age is -- 5. I have been a bona fide resident of this state for two years prior to the making of this application and during that time I have resided in Alexander City, Route #7. 6. I enlisted in the Confederate Army (or Navy, as the case may be) on the (left blank) day of Sometime in May 1862 and was a member of Company F and 47 Regiment. 7. I was never charged with desertion of conduct unbecoming a soldier, and was honorably discharged at Columbus GA on the (left blank) day of April 1865 (Note: there is a note that reads, “Served at Hospital during War.) 8. I was at Columbus GA when the war closed. 9. The names of my Company and Regimental officers were as follows: Captain: E. D. Intoxication is strictly prohibited. 2. No gambling is allowed. 3. No inmate will be permitted to sell, exchange or give away any article of clothing or property belonging to the home. 4. No whiskey or other intoxicating liquor shall be brought into any of the buildings or upon the grounds of the Home, without the consent of the Commandant being first obtained. 5. Using profane, obscene or abusive language, quarreling, fighting, or any disorderly conduct whatever is strictly forbidden. 6. Inmates, when able, shall perform such duties as obtaining fuel for their respective rooms, policing grounds, beautifying the Home, and shall perform other similar duties when directed so to do by the Commandant. 7. East inmate shall keep his person, clothing, bedding, and quarters clean and shall bathe himself as often as may be necessary for that purpose. 8. The inmates shall observe a proper respect for the officers of the Home, and be polite and courteous to each other. 9. No inmate shall absent himself from the Home without permission from the Commandant. 10. Any inmate who deems that he has a grievance or cause of complaint may apply in writing through the Commandant, to the Executive Committee, who will pass upon such complaint or grievance, and report its action to the Board of Control. 11. It is expected that each inmate of the House will make an earnest and cheerful effort to contribute to its success and promote the comfort and happiness of all with whom he is associated, and in this way, it is believed that every beneficiary of the Home will experience comfort and contentment in his declining years. 12. No inmate will be allowed in the Home who does not cheerfully accept these rules and regulations and undertake to obey them in good faith. For a willful and persistent violation thereof he will be expelled from the Home.
