Hackeyville News: 
Our community was greatly shocked by said accident at the sawmill, three mile 
east of here. Mr. W. W. Conner, lumber bearer fell on the saw, instantly cutting 
one hand and one leg. He survived only twelve hours was buried at Providence 
last Sunday.

Tallapoosa New Era:
We have Just learned that a shocking accident resulting in the death of Mr. 
William W. Conner son of Rev. Mr. Mell Conner, occurred Friday, 19th inst.
in Clay County, about five miles above here at Harlan's sawmill. Mr. Conner's 
foot chanced to slip while he was passing near the saw in motion, and he fell 
upon it. In an instant his left hand was completely cut off, and his left leg 
was also cut off very close to his body, except a narrow strip of flesh perhaps 
three-fourths of an inch in thickness. The saw struck his thigh just below the 
groin, and cut diagonally across, taking away part of the hip. Drs. J. J. and 
LaFayette Harlan amputated the leg and did all they could for him. He lived from 
the time of the accident about 9 a.m. to 7 p. m. when death relieved him of his 
pain. He leaves wife and two children.
