Ashland Progress
The many friends of Howard Meigs, 23-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Meigs, of 
Alexander City, were shocked by the announcement of his untimely death which 
occurred by drowning at Ft. Worth, Texas, a few days ago. The young man had only 
recently gone to Ft. Worth to accept a position and he and some friends were out 
for a ride in a motorboat on an artificial lake near Ft. Worth, when in some way 
the boat was capsized, and he and another young man were drowned. Mr. Meigs' body 
was sent back to Alexander City for burial. He had a lot of friends in Ashland 
and Clay County to whom the news of his death brought sadness.
