Johnston, Jr. rcj@elmore.rr.com November 24, 2004, 10:56 pm The Alexander City Outlook, Thursday, December 5, 1940 H. E. ALLEN PASSES AT RIPE AGE OF 87 Friends here and elsewhere of Mr. H. E. Allen, age 87, were grieved to hear of his passing at his home in this city, Wednesday afternoon Nov. 27, at about 3:30, after having been stricken Sunday night, Nov. 24, with a hemorrhage. Up until the time he was stricken he could get about good for one of his age. He was often seen in town, always stopping and talking with his friends, of which he had many. Mr. Allen was born and spent the biggest part of his life in the New Site community. He was one of that community's most successful farmers, and he accumulated a large amount of property and money from his efforts of farming. He always took a leading part in the church and all other matters that were for the betterment of his community. He was elected and served one term as road commissioner from the New Site-Daviston district. As a young man Mr. Allen joined the Zana Methodist church. About twenty years ago he retired and moved to Alexander City, and has since made his home here. He moved his membership from the Zana church to The First Methodist church here where he always took an active part as long as his health permitted. Funeral services were held at Harmony church, near New Site, Thursday, Nov. 28, by his pastor, Rev John B. Rice, with burial in the adjoining cemetery. Cantrell directing. The following grandsons served as honorary pall bearers: Sim Allen, Herman Kilgore, Bob Allen, Harvey Kilgore, L. B. Allen and Hoyt Simpson. Mr. Allen is survived by his widow, Mrs. Addie Martin Allen, two daughters, Mrs. J. J. Kilgore, of Sikesville; Mrs. W. C. Foshee, of Grandfield, Okla. Two daughters, Mrs. H. B. Radney, Mrs. R. G. Simpson and two sons, Mr. Sim Allen and Dr. L. B. Allen preceded him to the grave.
