The house was probably built in the mid-1840s and was positioned near the center of Thornton’s half-section of land described as the South 1/2 of Sect 12 T24N R21E. The three generation descendants list for Thornton shown below indicate many of his children were probably born in the house. Thornton’s brothers, James E. Watkins and Rial Henry Watkins lived near Thornton in the 1850s but they later moved to Texas. Thornton is buried in the above ground vault in the Hillabee Campground Methodist Church Cemetery near his young daughter, Francis. . Thornton Preston WATKINS (19 Mar 1813-9 Apr 1868) m.
