Tallapoosa County Court 1846
BOND TO MARRY
 
The State of Alabama
Tallapoosa County
 
Know all men by these presents that we James J. Carter and Thomas Farmer are 
held and firmly bound unto his Excellency Joshua L. Martin Governor of said 
State and his successors in office in the penal sum of two hundred dollars 
payment for which we bind ourselves and every of our heirs Executors or 
Administrators jointly and severally by these presents sealed with our seal and 
dated the twenty eighth day of November AD 1846.
The consideration of this obligation is such that if there be no lawful cause 
why James J. Carter and Matilda Davis should not be joined together in the Holy 
union of Matrimony then this obligation to be voice otherwise to remain in full 
force and virtue.

To any ordained Minister of the Gospel, Judge of the County, or Circuit Court, 
or Justice of the Peace in and for said County.
 
Greetings, you are hereby authorized to celebrate the Rites of Matrimony between
James J. Carter and Matilda Davis and this shall be your sufficient authority 
for so doing. Given under my hand and seal this 28th day of November Ad one 
thousand and eight hundred and forty-six and of American Independence the 71st 
year.
