CROUCH The State of Alabama Tallapoosa County Know all men by these presents that whereas the right of matrimony (can’t read) is contemplation and about to be solemnized between William Ray of the county and state aforesaid and Susanah Crouch of the same place witnesseth that this said Susanah has for herself and in her own right the following property and money to wit one thousand dollars coming from the Estate of William Jennings of Edgefield District South Carolina, Father of the above named Susanah Crouch, also one sorrel mare, eight head of stock cattle, ten head of hogs, two feather beds and furniture. Now it is agreed for and in consideration of the marriage about to be celebrated between the said William and the said Susanah that Silas Ray be and has hereby appointed trustee for the said Susanah and the aforementioned money and property to (can’t read) the one thousand dollars the sorrel mare eight head of cattle ten head of hogs and two feather beds and furniture is hereby convey to the said Silas Ray in trust however and for the sole use and benefit of the same Susanah during her natural life and at her death the above mentioned money and property to be converted to the use of her children and it is further agreed that the said William is to and shall have the use of said money and property and control it with the consent of the said Trustee and the said Trustee right to sue for and recover any Estate or property coming in any way to the said Susanah and the foregoing agreement is to be considered binding between the parties and that the said property is not to be subject to any Liabilities of the said William. In witness whereof we have here unto set our hands and seals this 13th day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty three. The will of her father, William Jennings was filed 13 Feb 1843 Edgefield District SC. After the death of William Ray, Susannah married Edward Bessinger in Tallapoosa Co. She was apparently widowed again by the 1855 AL State Census.
