Edwards LEDWARDS6@nc.rr.com January 16, 2003, 4:29 pm The courthouse in Dadeville has birth and death records going back to 1881 (this pre-dates the state registration by nearly 30 years). The records are not complete (I think there is a death volume missing c. 1900) and not all deaths or births were actually registered, but I have found records for several of my ancestors who did not get a state-issued death or birth certificate. The amount of information in these records varies. After 1908, the death records show all the same information as the state-issued certificates. Even after 1908, many people registered the births of their children at the courthouse, but did not obtain state-issued birth certificates for them (my great-grandparents were among the offenders in this category).
