Slaughter's Will State of Alabama } Tallapoosa County} Know all men by these presents, that I John R. Slaughter of the state and county aforesaid, being of sound mind, knowing the uncertainty of human life do make the following as my last will and testament. It is my will that my property be left for the use of my family, my wife Martha Amanda Slaughter and my children Asberry Olynthus Slaughter, John Thomas Slaughter, Nancy Odessa Slaughter and James William Walton Slaughter, and should my wife have another child to my name, I wish it to share equally with my other children of my property. I wish all my property to be kept together for the use and benefit of my wife and children as aforesaid, unless my wife should marry again, in that event I wish my estate to be equally divided between her and my children. In the event that my wife should not marry before my children because of age or marry, It is my will that my children as they marry or become of age, shall draw their equal share, or proportion of my estate. I appoint Walton Ware and Samuel Harwell as my legal administrators, and with their counsel and advice I wish my wife to have the privilege of buying and selling anything for the use and benefit of my family. Will Book 1, page 229, Tallapoosa County Court House, Dadeville, AL State of Alabama } Probate Court of said County Tallapoosa County} In the matter of the probate of the last will and testament of John R. Slaughter, deceased. Before me Allen D. Sturdivant, Judge of said Court, personally appeared, in open court, Lewis H. Fargason and Benjamin Johnson, who having been, by me, first repectively duly sworn and examined, did and do depose and say on oath, that they are each subscribing witnesses to this instrument of writing, now shown to them, and which purports to be the last will and testament of John R. Slaughter deceased, late an inhabitant of this county: that said Slaughter since deceased, signed and executed the said instrument on the day the same bears date, and declared the same to be his last will and testament, and that affiants set their signatures thereto, on the day the same bears date, as subscribing witnesses to to the same, in the presence of said testator: that said testator was of sound mind, and disposing memory: and in the opinion of deponents, fully capable of making his will, at the time the same was so made as aforesaid.
