COPELAND --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- Original Message ----- From: HemmesEG@aol.com To: poohbos@poohbos.com Sent: Tuesday, April 20, 2004 2:43 PM Subject: Tallapoosa County, ALArchives I am Eleanor Greene Hemmes of Dallas TX. I am a descendant of Benjamin Young (1789-1841). I would like to correct something if possible. Harrison Young whose will is on Page l of the archives who d in 1838 and left to John, Benjamin,Daniel,Hezekiah, Jefferson and Harrison (all surnamed Young) is NOT the Harrison Bennett Young who d around the same time. The Harrison Bennett Young is also known as Harrison B. Young and just Harrison Young. This is where the confusion begins. Bennett Young is the son of Robert Young and Celia Strickland. They were from Hall co GA. Harrison Bennett Young was b 4 April 1811 - much later than "our" Harrison Young who never appeared with a middle initial. I researched the Hall Co Youngs for a year before I realized the problem. Harrison Young had brothers Benjamin H. and Bird Harrison Young (Simon Suggs) Harrison Bennett Young m Nancy Lovejoy in 1832 in Carrollton GA. He died and Nancy remarried to Isaac Stowe in 1850. Our Harrison died unmarried but left two sons in Conecuh Co AL. We don't know who he married or if he married more than once. This has been a real problem in researching our Youngs as I have received probably four sets of records re: Harrison Bennett Young by well meaning researchers who believe him to be the one and same as Harrison Young mentioned in the records above. Our Harrison Young was much older and was in Alabama ca 1816 along with his brothers in Monroe Co AL in 1816 Census. They left Jasper Co GA and came to Alabama with many of the early settlers of Alabama. Harrison Bennett Young left three children - Samuel, Louisa and Robert who are mentioned in wills from Hall Co GA by their kin. Thanks Eleanor who is descended as follows: Benjamin Young>John Harrison Young who m Sophia Jane Moore Dec 13 1866>Sarah Texanna Young Stacey Cotton>Tommie Nora Cotton Greene Lacy> Eleanor. Benjamin Young m in GA early. His wife died ca 1820 in South Alabama. He remarried to Sarah Phelps Haynes in Perry Co AL in 1827. She was the d/o Phelps Haynes and Lucy Hurt/Hunt. We think he may have been married first to a dau of Phelps brother, Henry Haynes and Rebecca Tatum. Henry Haynes has long been identified as the father of Benjamin's second wife - Sarah Phelps Haynes. Henry DID have a Sarah Phelps Haynes but she married a Shackleford in Montgomery co AL in 1817. It is confusing unless you have really studied the lineages of the Haynes. They loved to name their children the same thing- alas. Thanks Eleanor Greene Hemmes in Dallas TX at HemmesEG@aol.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
