Campbell, sergeant, Company F, 2d Battalion, 5th Regiment, United States Marine Corps. For extraordinary heroism in action near Blanc Mont, France, October 3-5, 1918. On the 3d and 4th of October, while detailed on statistical work, he voluntarily assisted in giving first aid to the wounded. On October 5, when the enemy advanced within 300 yards of the dressing station, he took up a position in the lines helping in defense. Although twice wounded, he remained in action under heavy fire until the enemy had been repulsed. Residence at enlistment: 810 Twenty-sixth Avenue, Tuscaloosa, Ala.
