Captain Anthony Savage, Esq. Justice of the Peace of Gloucester Co. Va. as late as 1773 was my ancestor through his daughter, who married Frances Thornton. I want all the information possible of his family. I have been informed indirectly that he settled late in life, or his descendants in the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Had he other children beside Alice, if so, have descendants been able to learn the name of his wife? And if he was of John and Alice (Stafford) Savage---Humphrey Stafford of Derbyshire. If I can get proof that this is his true line, I will furnish what I believe to be the ancestry of this Humphrey Stafford, with my reason for furnishing same to be published in these columns. Do not delay furnishing me with what proofs now held in the family. Mrs. S.L.C. Aiken, S.C. The Savages who came to South Carolina came because of a division in the family, caused by the Revolutionary War. They were Revolutionists. Jon Savage, said to be a brother of Anthony Savage who never married and died before 1850, either in Western Va. or Ohio, left a large landed estate. James Payne Savage received from Attorneys a letter informing him that his family certainly [were] heirs to the said John Savage, deceased. Received the letter July 4th, 1848, at Goshen, Ala. He nor any of his relatives ever made reply to the letter.
