Brock, Esq. - County Unknown, AL William J. Brock, Esq., formerly mayor of Florence, and a prominent young lawyer, was shot and killed by one Bird, last Friday. **************************************************************************** Same paper different article: Florence Gazette: "A most deplorable difficulty occurred on Court street on Friday evening at about 3 1/2 o'clock, between Messrs. Wm. T. Brock and J.E. Byrd, in the course of which the former was wounded in the right side, near the hipbone, and in the left arm, near the elbow, and breathed his last at 5 o'clock on Sunday morning. Mr. Byrd was placed under $2,-500 bond by Squire Rice."
