Vancouver Evening Columbian January 13, 1921

Jasper, Ala., Jan 13 - William Beard, miner, held in connection with the killing of 
James Morris, guardsman December 31 last, was taken from the Walker county 
jail here early today by a mob and later shot to death three miles from Jasper.
The jailer and military authorities believed Beard had been rescued from prison 
by friends until the body was discovered at the road side by a mail carrier.
