Barton WBarton102@aol.com August 25, 2003, 5:15 pm The Oakman News newspaper1/28/1897 Louis MYERS, of Lost Creek, was in today and brought the sad intelligence of the tragic death of ‘Grandma’ McCLAIN. Monday night at a late hour, the lady arose without rousing the family to enjoy a smoke. While lighting her pipe, her clothing caught fire and very soon every vestige of apparel was burned from her body. She lingered until Tuesday night, when death relieved her terrific suffering. Mrs. McClain, who was a widow, resided with a married daughter. She leaves a large family of children and grandchildren, and was over 85 years of age.
