The Mountain Eagle newspaper 11/4/1896

Died at his home on Sipsey river,this county, on the 22 ultimate, Mr Byrd COLE 
age 92. He was born in Buscombe Co. North Carolina about the year 1804 where he 
grew to manhood and lived until he was 33 yrs old and then came to Walker Co 
located on the Sipsey River in the east of this county where he lived for 60 
yrs until the Inevitable Summons. Death came to remove to the Celestal Reward 
awaiting all who, like him, prove faithful to the end. He was the perfect type 
of rugged honesty and integrity. He leaves a wife ,many relatives and friends 
to mourn his departure.
