S. Candee, a prominent planter. Mr. Candee's body was found in the road with seven bullet holes near the heart, and the impression prevailed that he was shot down from ambush by some person, whose identity has not yet been learned. Mr. Candee was above sixty years of age and had been a frequent visitor to Mobile, where he enjoyed a large circle of acquaintances. In former years he engaged extensively in horse selling, and many people here learned to know him through transactions and in a general business way. His friends in Mobile speak well of the man and regretted to hear of this death in such a foul manner. It was learned here that much indignation had been expressed by the people in the vicinity of Mr. Candee's home, and a desperate effort will be made to locate and capture the guilty person and bring him to justice. Mr. Candee was a wealthy man and in former years had figured prominently in politics, being a leader in the Republican party in his section during the reign of that party in Alabama. He was one time sheriff of Wilcox County and a member of the legislature. - Mobile Herald. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/alfiles/ File size: 1.7 Kb
