He is a native of this county and his academic and professional education was obtained in the schools of Snow Hill and Camden, and in the University of Alabama. He is a son of Judge John Purifoy, who was Probate Judge 1880-1886, and a member of the Legislature 1890-1891 from this county; who was also State Auditor 1892-1896 and State Examiner of Accounts 1897-1901. Young Mr. Purifoy is not without experience in public affairs himself. He has had experience in the offices of the State Auditor and of the State Treasurer. For two years he was Secretary to the President and of the Board of Trustees of the University. In the session of 1900-01, he was clerk of the House Committee on Corporations in the Legislature. He has given considerable attention to accounting, and, besides miscellaneous expert accounting, he was employed two years by Birmingham Trust & Savings Company as an auditor and accountant. This is a valuable experience in passing laws on the financial interests of the State, and, if elected, he will do whatever he can to advance the material and moral interests of the people of the State and county.
