File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: STEPHEN LEE ================================================================================ June 2003 Wilcox Progressive Era Thursday, January 31, 1901 It is our sad and painful duty to chronicle the death of Grier Bonner, the youngest son of Maj. Jas. Bonner, deceased. His death was a great shock to his relatives and friends - he was only sick a few days with Pneumonia. One peculiarly sad fact of his death was being from home. He was a student at Auburn College. He was his mother's boy and was preparing to make himself a farmer and live with her at the old homestead and make green her declining years. He left surviving him, six brothers and one sister. They were with him when he died. His body was brought home and buried on last Tuesday at Oak Hill. He was just budding into manhood with promise of great usefulness. He had been trained from infancy by a mother's love and wisdom in "that perfect way" that leads to honor in this life and hapiness in the great hereafter. He was a member of the church of his father at Oak Hill, and took pleasure in the work of the church. We can only bow to the great mystery of death when one so young and promising is taken. To his stricken mother and to his brothers and sisters, in this dark hour of grief, we can only extend sympathy, and leave them with their God who is full of love and will one day make all these dark events clear and wise. "Wait on the Lord."
