Our community was saddened when they heard of the death of Mr. Isaac Bloch, who died in Selma, the 1st inst. For some time he had been unwell, and recently took a trip to Florida, hoping for relief in that balmy climate, but the improvement did not come, and he returned to his home, and to die with those, around him who were near and dear to him. Mr. Bloch was born in New York City, and as a child came to Camden, with his father and mother, the late Mr. and Mrs. Morris Bloch, about 1853, and here his youth and early manhood was spent - here his school days were passed; here he received the degree of Free Masonry. In 1878, he moved to Selma, first engaging in the wholesale grocery business, and later in the cotton commission business, being the senior member of I. Bloch & Son when he died. In 1881, he married Miss Proskauer of Uniontown, a sister of Major Proskauer, a gallant Confederate Soldier of Mobile. His wife, three sons and a daughter mourn his death, and many friends here comingle their sorrow, with those friends he made, in Selma. The deceased was a first cousin of our townsman, Hon. S. D. Bloch. Additional Comments: Wilcox Progressive Era Newspaper Microfilm located at the Alabama Department of Archives and History, Montgomery, Alabama.
