R. Chandler, whose death was noted in your esteemed paper of last week, was well and favorable known to many in Wilcox County. He was born in Mim's Beat as we remember but spent large part of his life near what is now known as Darlington, in the prairies, just North of Rose Bud. He was a man of limited education, but a large experience and close observation made him a man of recognized parts. He began life, like so many in these late years, poor as to goods, but rich in energy and honesty. He was married to Miss Alice Stewart and by the marriage left surviving his widow and four sons. A few years ago he sold his real estate in Wilcox and purchased a home in Baldwin County, a few miles back from Daphne and was there building up a nice home and farm. He moved to get schooling for his children. He was ambitious for his boys. He wanted to see them equipped for the battles of life. He was a true friend - in this sphere of life many can say he was true; he was an affection husband and father and looked well after the wants and pleasures of those dependent upon him. He died of some brain trouble that baffled relief from the best of medical skill. He was buried in the Cemetery at Daphne. The sympathy of many in his old home is extended to his bereaved family. He has left a legacy to his boys in that they can always remember with filial pride the life of a noble father who was an honest, upright, highly esteemed citizen and friend.
