B. H. Howard, was born in Canton, Ala., Feb. 25th, 1860, and died at Tuskaloosa, Ala., March 24th, 1901. Deprived of her own mother in tender infancy, she lavished her whole heart's love and gratitude on those to whom she owed so much. Gentle, thoughtful, patient and unselfish, she not only endeared herself to her friends, but drew close bonds of union between them, and only those to whom she gave the full measure of her love could know her depths of sweetness. In early womanhood she united with the Presbyterian church and her daily life was marked by modesty, humility, and a deep and abiding faith in her God. When the hand of affliction lay heavily upon her, she murmured not, but still praised Him and prayed that if it were his will, she might be taken to her heavenly home where she might kiss her Savior's feet. Her sorrows all over, her prayers all answered, in the "land that is fairer than day" of which she often sang in her child-hood, in "the beautiful home of the Soul," the sweet spirit of loving Bessie Howard is at rest.
