C. Gordon. Our people were saddened to learn that Mr. DeWitt Clinton Gordon died in Mobile last Saturday, Feb. 8th, 1908, aged eighty-one years. For many years Mr. Gordon lived in our county, first in the Grampian Hills, later in Camden, and lastly at Sallie, in Black's Bluff beat, from where he moved to Mobile about sixteen years ago. When he died he lived with his sons, Drs. Robert C. and Sextus J. Gordon. Mr. Gordon married Miss Jackson, daughter of Gen'l John P. Jackson, deceased, and for many years they were a happy couple. At one time, he was Circuit Clerk of Wilcox County, and rendered good service to the Confederacy in its struggles for independence. His wife died some years ago, and since then he has lived with his children. One of his brothers was the late Judge Henry R. Gordon of Camden. His surviving children are Drs. R. C. and S. J. Gordon and Mr. Frank C. Gordon, of Mobile, Mr. W. Y. Gordon and Mrs. W. F. Lamont, of Atmore, Mrs. Mamie Horn, of Canoe Station, and Mrs. D. J. McCarty of Sallie. His remains were brought home and buried beside his wife at Sallie. A good true man, who always held the respect of every one who knew him, has gone to his reward.
