R. Hawthorne. The Progressive Era regrets to learn of the death at his home in Pine Apple of Mr. J. R. Hawthorne lately. Mr. Hawthorne for some time had been a sufferer with a cancerous throat affection, and his death was due to this cause. Always of a bright, cheerful and happy disposition, his last moments were cheered and brightened by his happy disposition. He was an honest, generous and just man; and was an uncompusing democrat, who always rendered true service to his party, whenever occasion required it. He was a son of the late Col. J. R. Hawthorne of Pine Apple, and like his father, he ever regarded his word promise as his bond. His last prayer was that God would let him die an easy death, and surely the Master answered that entreaty, for his end was peaceful and without pain. When such men, as Dick Hawthorne die, they are a loss, to an entire people; and to his widow and children, our consoling words, are that "a good name is better than riches," and such a legacy, Mr. Hawthorne has left to his family and friends. Peace to his soul. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/alfiles/ File size: 1.6 Kb
