Messrs. R. L. and Ford Hawthorne returned a few days ago from Greenville, where they had been called to the bedside of their mother, Mrs. Clara Ford Hawthorne, who had suffered a stroke of paralysis, the third attack of the kind, and from which she died on the 9th inst. The funeral occurred at Greenville and the body was buried by the side of her husband, Maj. Judson Hawthorne, who died some years ago. Mrs. Hawthorne was 78 years of age. She is survived by four daughters and two sons. Mrs. Ida Steiner of Denver, Col., Mrs. Sidney Lewis, who is in Georgia; Mrs. Vann and Mrs. Ashley McQueen, of Greenville, and two sons, R. L. and Ford Hawthorne of Camden, were with her when the end came. Mrs. Hawthorne's husband was a brother of Dr. J. B. Hawthorne, the prominent Baptist divine of Richmond, Va., and his father was one of the loved pioneer preachers of the same denomination.
