S. McBryde. Died on April 19th, 1906, at his residence at Oak Hill, Wilcox County, Ala., J. S. McBryde, Past Master of Wilcox Lodge No. 80 A. F. & A. Masons. Bro. McBryde was born and reared in Wilcox County. At an early age he enlisted as a private in the Wilcox True Blues 1st Regiment C. S. A., and served twelve months at Pensacola. He afterwards joined the 44th Alabama Regiment, was elected Orderly Sergeant of his company, and served in the army of Virginia until the close of the war. Bro. McBryde was made a Mason in Wilcox Lodge No. 80 in 1866, and was an active and zealous member until he died. He filled many of the most important offices of the Lodge including the Worshipful Master, to which he was elected in 1886, and served almost continually until he declined to be elected in 1901. After his retirement he never lost interest in the Lodge but was always at his post unless providentially hindered. As a soldier Bro. McBryde was loyal to the Lost Cause. As a Mason he was zealous and exemplary. As a citizen he was peacable and law-abiding. As a friend, true and faithful, and it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that we recall the death of our worthy Past Master. Therefore be it Resolved: 1st. - That we tender to his bereaved family our heartfelt sympathy and condolence. 2nd. - That we wear the usual badge of mourning. 3rd. - That a copy of these resolutions be furnished to the family of our deceased brother. 4th. - That a copy be furnished the county papers for publication. 5th. - That a blank page in our minutes be set apart and his name be inscribed thereon.
