MCMILLAN DIED THIS MORNING Prominent Merchant of This City Passes Away. Had Been Ill Since Last May. Survived by His Wife and Three Children. The many relatives an friends of Thos B. McMillan will be pained to hear that he died this morning at 6 o’clock at his residence on the corner of Scott and N. Central avenue. Mr. McMillan was born in Wilcox County, Ala., in 1831. He was a student of the University of Tennessee of this city in 1849 – 1850. While there attending the university he met and wedded Miss Fannie V. Anderson, daughter of Gen. Alexander Anderson, of this county, and returned to his home in Alabama, cutting short his collegiate course. By that marriage he had six children, those of whom survive him. They are: A. V. McMillan, merchant of Camden, Ala., D. T. McMillan, deputy clerk and master of chancery court, this county, and Miss Lorene McMillan, who resided with her father. Mr. McMillan filled a space in the memory of Wilcox County, Ala., people from among whom he removed in 1887 to this place, that was largely to his credit as a man, citizen, and christian gentleman. He served there as a circuit court clerk and magistrate, and was a successful planter. On coming to Knoxville he engaged in the lumber business and was a member of the firm of Ross, McMillan & Co. In his new home he made many friends. He was the soul of business integrity and social virtues. His standards and ideals were high. His conduct and intercourse was marked by kindness and generous dealing with all he came in contact with. He was an elder in Third Presbyterian church. One of the pathetic phrases of his death is that he leaves a devoted wife lingering in the throes of a probably fatal malady. – Knoxville Sentinel.
