Martin, one of Wilcox's oldest citizens died at Oak Hill the 6th inst., aged about 79 years. He was an excellent man and husband, a true confederate soldier and democrat, a man of honor, honesty and benevolence. He was buried by Wilcox Lodge No. 80 Free and Accepted Masons at Oak Hill cemetery. Mr. Martin had for years been a member of Camden Chapter No. 40 Royal Arch Masons. To his bereaved widow and many relatives, our heartfelt sympathies are extended. Wilcox Progressive Era, Thursday, June 27, 1907 In Memory of Mr. Martin. Died at his residence at Oak Hill, Wilcox county, Ala., on the 6th day of June 1907, William T. Martin, who was a member of Wilcox Lodge No. 80 A. F. & A. Masons. Brother Martin was born near Camden on the 1st day of Aug. 1828. He joined the Protestant Methodist church when quite young, and led a peacable, christian life. He joined the 53rd Ala. Regiment Calvary, and served faithfully until his health failed. He was made a mason in Wilcox Lodge, No. 80, Aug. 27th, 1852, of which he was a zealous member until he died, and we can truthfully say of Bro. Martin that his life was an exemplification of the teachings of our order - Faith in God, Hope in Immortality and Charity to all mankind. - Bro. Martin's life was an open book, he had no concealment, and while he always stood for the right, he was never intolerant. He was faithful to his church, faithful to his lodge, faithful to the community, and above all, faithful to his family. As a manifestation of our love for him, and appreciation of his many noble qualities, be it resolved: 1st That his name be inscribed on a blank page of our minutes. 2nd That we tender to his bereaved wife and family our heartfelt sympathy and condolence. 2rd That a copy of these resolutions be sent to his family. 4th That a copy be forwarded to the county papers for publication.
