D. Packer. The family and friends of John Dubose Packer were inexpressibly shocked and grieved on Friday morning last, when the announcement came of his sudden death at his home in Black's Bend. He retired on Thursday night, after an unusually busy day, in seemingly good health, little thinking that he would never look upon another sun-rise, but about one o'clock a. m., he became violently ill, and died before medical aid could be obtained. Mr. Packer was born July 25th, 1858, He was reared and spent his entire life, at Black's Bend, in a home, in whose atmosphere a guest always found it a delight to be. It was also the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Packer. After his marriage to Miss Minnie C. Watson, a daughter of Mr. R. U. L. Watson, of Fatama, this county, which took place Nov. 28th, 1894, he made for himself and wife a home of like character. Mr. Packer inherited the whole hearted, open handed hospitality of his parents, and all who visited his home once, wanted to go there again. Those who knew John Packer best, loved him most, and the large concourse of friends, who followed him sorrowfully to his last resting place, in Black's Bend cemetery, last Friday afternoon, April 10th, attested the high esteem in which he was held. He was a consistent member of the Baptist church, and from his youth up was always a willing contributor to its cause, and keenly alive to its interests. He is survived by his wife, two sisters, Miss Jennie D. Packer and Mrs. J. N. Stanford, and many other relatives and connections, to whom a host of friends extend their sincere sympathy in their great sorrow.
