His friends will regret to learn of the death of this estimable old citizen, who died at his home in Canton Bend, Oct. 17, 1907, aged about 72 years. Mr. Ratcliffe was of the old type of Southern gentleman. Modest, brave and unassuming. In ante bellum days, when true manhood was the standard, Mr. Ratcliffe and his brothers and sisters lived in a neighborhood of chivalry, plenty and integrity, and was always known and regarded as an upright citizen. A farmer by choice and profession, his world was the pleasures of a religious home. When the South arose to defend its right, none did braver service during the entire struggle than did he. A true democrat, he was always with his party, and in his death he will be remembered as a good man and brother. Two sisters survive him, and to them, our sympathies are extended.
