Sidney Smith, of Canton Bend, is dead, his death occurred on Thursday night of heart failure, Mr. Smith was a farmer, and a man liked by everybody, big hearted and generous to a fault, he was one of natures children; when not engaged in his farm, he took dogs and went to the woods for enjoyment and past time, he was a Justice of the Peace in that Beat and many frive'ous cases was thrown out of his court, and good advice administered to the contending parties, and his visits to Camden was on an average of twice a year, to bring his docket to the Grand Jury. We deeply sympathize with his brothers and his relatives and friends generally for in his death that neighborhood loses a good man, he was a good neighbor, and a true friend, and one who did his duty as a citizen as he thought right, and could not be moved from his position, unless facts was put before him showing him that he was mistaken. What he did in his own way for charity, was never known, he did not claim that he was lending it to the Lord, with the expectation of future reward, but from pure generosity coming from the heart of a good man and without ostentation.
