Wilcox Progressive Era, Thursday, December 24, 1903

Mr. John Shields, of Dallas, who has been in bad health for some time 
and very despondent. While temporarily unbalanced mentally, shot 
himself through the head on the Henry place on 19th Dec. This sad 
occurrence will be greatly regretted by his friends and relatives, and 
to his family, we extend our sympathy. He was a good man, high strung 
and honorable.
